With its bright beads and sturdy wooden frame, this wooden Abacus has ten rows with ten beads on each.

The ‘Giant Abacus’, the children set their own challenges with this. “It helps you with counting.” “I like spinning the balls, they’re like a rainbow.” “I can do the same on my one as you can on yours.” The giant design of the abacus made for a nice, sensory activity for the children, really reinforcing 1:1 correspondence whilst counting, as the beads had to be moved using their whole hand no beads were missed. The abacus allowed for easily differentiation too, from 1:1 counting, simple addition and subtraction, to thinking about number bonds, counting to 100 and counting in 10s and 2s.
