HOW TO USE YOUR PE AND SPORTS PREMIUM

The government guidance sets out that schools must use their PE and Sport Premium to develop or add to the PE, physical activity and sports activities already provided by the school. It should build the schools capacity and capability so that improvements will benefit both the pupils currently attending and those in the future. There are five key indicators for schools to consider when planning how to use their funding.

NEW SWIMMING SUPPORT
FOR SCHOOLS

Who doesn’t love school swimming sessions? The kids are all energised and excited, lost swimming kits, last minute removal of earrings and jewellery, the stampede for the coach to get to the local pool (unless you are lucky enough to have your own), serenely teaching your group to swim, and then the inevitable lost socks and “healthy snacks” on the way back to school. It’s all worthwhile as swimming is an important life skill, so we must ensure that all of our children have this ability with the DfE regularly investing in it.

SCHOOL SPORTS PREMIUM

The Primary PE and Sports Premium was introduced back in March 2013 to improve the provision of PE in primary schools across England. Since 2013, the government have continued to allocate funding each year and on 5th July 2020, the Department for Education confirmed that for the 2020/21 academic year, funding would continue at £320 million.

GET GIRLS ACTIVE

Working in schools we get to see all sorts of children – those that are engaged, as well as those that are not and of course those that shine and excel amongst their peers. This is true of all subjects, but PE is an area that can represent this most sharply. Sadly, it is also the subject that can see the most deterioration in the love of the subject.
