£100M SCHOOL FUNDING FOR HEALTH AND WELLBEING!

The health and wellbeing of children is vital in a modern era where obesity levels are on the rise and a sedentary lifestyle is prevalent. In 2018-19, schools will receive £100 million pounds from the government to spend specifically on improving health and wellbeing and promoting a more active lifestyle. It was announced back in 2017 that the money is being made available via the Healthy Pupils Capital Fund, also known as The HPCF in the 2018-19 academic year.

NEW SWIMMING SUPPORT
FOR SCHOOLS

Who doesn’t love school swimming sessions? The kids are all energised and excited, lost swimming kits, last minute removal of earrings and jewellery, the stampede for the coach to get to the local pool (unless you are lucky enough to have your own), serenely teaching your group to swim, and then the inevitable lost socks and “healthy snacks” on the way back to school. It’s all worthwhile as swimming is an important life skill, so we must ensure that all of our children have this ability with the DfE regularly investing in it.

SCHOOL SPORTS PREMIUM

The school sports premium was introduced back in March 2013 to improve the provision of PE in primary schools across England. It is a large pot of money (about £150M annually) that is funded through several government bodies. It is ring-fenced to ensure that it is used purely for the development of PE in primary schools. The funding is guaranteed until 2020.

GET GIRLS ACTIVE

Working in schools we get to see all sorts of children – those that are engaged, as well as those that are not and of course those that shine and excel amongst their peers. This is true of all subjects, but PE is an area that can represent this most sharply. Sadly, it is also the subject that can see the most deterioration in the love of the subject.
